€1.48 million for pilot projects involving young people from different countries and backgrounds to development new European #SocialMedia platforms, focusing on user safety, mental health, privacy and ease of use. Building on #Fediverse or #ATProtocolDeadline: 6 October.
Had there been such institutional interest expressed in the #fediverse before?
Can someone explain what #ATProtocol would allow/implies? Should it read "Fediverse or ATProtocol" or "and" (I guess if it's "or" Fediverse should be replaced by #activityPub, and I'm not sure I see how "and" could exist)?

@hpod16 wait... just one project will be funded? that's a tough limitation, taking into account that they're looking for protocol-based solutions where several solutions could successfully coexist

that isn't euro 1.48 million it is euro 148 million ?
cause maybe I know nothing about this (which is true) but 1.48 million is such a tiny sum as to be laughable

@hpod16 Is it possible at this point to leverage ATProto without touching BlueSky servers and US moderation? As long as the company is involved server-wise, I don't want to touch services using ATProto, and I haven't heard of any that don't.

@hpod16 OK, thank you. I just thought it might have been a point of discussion in the process leading up to the announcement, and I was, of course, hoping to hear that it can just be its own independent thing. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Well, that will really depend on who get's selected. But I can imagine they'd take a while to start communicating. I'll try to remember this and share it here if/when I find out who wins the grant -
