    @baldur it's weird isn't it? I imagine there's some correlation between liking chatbots and having a social hierarchy mindset

      I can be slow sometimes, but I also always thought the constant signals of servility these systems are made to exude were obviously distasteful, even when experienced second-hand through other people's reports

      @baldur Yeah, everyone wants to be someone's manager it seems (even if it is in silico). There is a strong link to toxic masculinity here (for the boosters), which has been argued is rooted in shame of failing to reach certain expectations (mostly in perceived status - as in how many people you get to boss around).

        @baldur The fact that you have to coerce these tools doesn't reflect well on them either. This sort of manipulative language is super uncomfortable and might be one reason women don't like these tools.

          @baldur A side product of all this is that people who are the most toxic in companies get a leg up. The micro-managing manipulative bastard will be "good at AI". The holistic manager with a long term vision systems thinking approach probably can't be bothered - as the context window for the models still isn't large enough for this.

            @baldur So, if your boss wasn't already a narcissistic shitbag - AI made those chances go up. Another reason we're circling the drain.

            *end rant*

                  @koen_hufkens @baldur Reminds me of this blog comparing the language of AI adoption to the language of rape.

                    @baldur
                    You mean you’re not looking forward to a time when a servant bot stands at attention in your room as you sleep all night, waiting for you to suddenly wake up and demand a glass of water or a sandwich? 🤔

                      @baldur i saw a dude at work asking an agent (who has a female name) "make me a sandwich please". Incredibly distasteful, and I called them out for that. And my reply was ignored by everyone in the chat.

                        @baldur Yeah, been thinking that for a while - I often accompany my thoughts about it with a certain Star Trek clip involving the woman who played the lead character in "The Color Purple"...
