Omarchy is part of new fascism. But it's also a good case study about how little political resilience is built into FLOSS: The libertarian roots have not only made the whole movement ready for the taking by corporations but also by fascists.
And sadly many influential organizations in that space are not up to the task for putting their foot down.

@tante It's a bit crazy seeing some of the most prominent billionaires in the tech industry giving money to DHH's pet project. In his blog post about London, DHH described a march organised by Tommy Robinson as "heartwarming". Tommy Robinson is a right-wing figure in the UK, considered too right-wing by Nigel Farage, the leader of the Reform political party (the UK's equivalent of MAGA). What a timeline we live in.

@tante It's infuriating to see how many highly educated people, not only on software engineering but also in science, are so completely disconnected from reality. Most of them will excuse themselves with a variation of "but I'm apolitical" which is ridiculous: for most of them, to remain silent IS a political choice, and one with heavy consequences to a huge part of society. In fact, they're "apolitical" only about topics that do not affect THEM directly, which tells a lot about THEIR believes.
