Do fellow US scientists have advice on what I'm supposed to do here. Am I just not going to have a job after spending years getting a PhD, do I move to another country, what options are we actually considering here.
How do I just not spend the next year(s) in despair.

@jakalopes Good questions. Not a scientist myself, but I raised one. They're just finishing a science PhD. We are both ... concerned?

@jakalopes I’m not a scientist. I’m an old person. Retired. Take it from me: do the hard thing. If it means going to another country for an extended time, do it while you are still young enough to deal with the turmoil of moving, new job and having to form new connections in another country. Look on it as a way to grow more and enrich your life. I read a book that said feel the fear and do it anyway. William Shatner said his success comes from saying yes to everything. Good luck to you!
