@steinstory Me too! We had a partial eclipse in Poland back then. I was a child, and our neighbor showed it to us through a welding mask. It made a huge impression on me. I had so many questions! And no one could answer them
Ever since then, I’d dreamed of seeing a total solar eclipse somewhere in the world
And this year, I finally made that dream come true!

And this year, I finally made that dream come true! ️️@maotsu So great that you finally could make your dream come true! It's really a one of a kind type of experience. I was 29 when I saw the total eclipse. The partial one yesterday was impressive too but couldn't come close to that earlier experience. Still happy I got to watch this one too, though!

Suddenly, it got dark and cold everywhere. The wind picked up. For a moment, you felt very small, and there was this strange sense of… awe, almost even fear. And that’s despite the fact that I understand the science behind a solar eclipse.So if I, a person living in the 21st century, can feel something like that, I can only imagine what ancient people must have felt when they saw the Sun suddenly disappear from the sky.
It was an absolutely incredible experience, and I would recommend it to everyone if you ever get the chance to see one.

@maotsu when we saw one, nearly 30 years ago, that so called dumb and unthinking animal our dog was terrified and climbed onto my lap for comfort. It was a very strange, spooky and awe inspiring experience which Lacey was well aware was not the norm so I am sure ancient humans would have worried about it for generations

@maotsu I remember feeling the same way when we saw the total eclipse in 2006 from Turkey. There was celebration and cheering, but I also had this terrible sense of fear - that something was *horribly wrong* because there was a dark "hole" in the sky where the sun should have been.
I have a master's degree in physics with astronomy, and I still couldn't shake that fundamental, animal response to what was going on. It was incredibly powerful.

@maotsu I watched the 2017 total eclipse from a football stadium with 1,000 other folks. The birds in the nearby trees went silent, thinking it was nighttime.

Next year, there’s going to be a solar eclipse in Egypt that will last for six minutes, and I’ll probably go to see that one too.

I was in Germany during the eclipse of 1999, it was cloudy but the effects you mention sound familiar. Even if you could not see the eclipse directly, it could be felt, the temperature dropped and a fast moving shadow appeared to move across the sky over those nasty clouds, or maybe not so nasty clouds, clouds are a function of the Earth, perhaps an eclipse with clouds is not something to loath.
