Why do I have to keep reading articles like this series & nobody ever mentions that once in space, this shit has to keep running?
Optimistically we're launching 10 rockets a day just to replace the satellites every 5 years, but what about replacing the GPUs which burn out in as little as one year? What of unpredicted failures? Collisions? Micro-meteorites?
I've never heard of a man-made structure that can run for 5-7 years without maintenance on Earth, let alone in fucking space.
