    @MikeElgan And exactly how many trillion valuation did they add to the their Big Tech sugar daddies?

    Let's be honest, last time I checked that was some time ago, alone the difference in MSFT valuation between "growth" and "mature" company P/E was over 2 trillion USD.

    That makes the burnt capex look like good PR costs, wouldn't you agree?

        @MikeElgan

        Reminder: It's an arms race.
        You wouldn't expect any visible, immediate profit from an arms race through purchasing bombs and tanks either. Or would you?

        It's an arms race to control media and the digital infrastructure and by this political power, unrestricted by any rules.

          Ce qui étonne, c'est l'insignifiance, à la limite de l'invisibilité, du poids financier de Mistral AI, la "licorne française". Pourtant LeChat marche bien, mais pour ce que je l'utilise ...

              @vampgun @MikeElgan It’s not just Nvidia — it’s nearly the entire semiconductor market. Just look at how much more you have to pay now compared to six months ago for RAM, storage, or CPUs. There’s already a massive shortage of resources. Samsung employees even receive bonuses of up to €300,000 when the company hits certain profit targets.

                  @KennedyRichard @sebastian @julesbl @PaulaToThePeople @MikeElgan How would you find my home page for example? For a while now, the only way to search for general knowledge is a site:*subdomain.com search. I see a lot of that independent content around, most people aren't aware of it because there's no true useful search unless you already know where to search. There's no lack of content but there is an incentive to lock it away by initially the corporate search engine owners, now AI owners.

                        @MikeElgan It is not so much a problem of those red and green stripes today. What you don't see here is that the cost those companies have is rising at a much larger speed than revenue. So the gap gets bigger all the time. Not sure if there is a way out of most of these companies getting bancrupt some point in the future. It can't go on like that indefinitely, not even for the big tankers.

                                @dckim @MikeElgan Look up what MSB and CDO's are and then what happened in 2007. People and companies make financial decisions and not all of them will be good. Only time will tell whether AI was a good investment or not.

                                @namedbird @MikeElgan I saw the movie 'The Big Short', so maybe that counts. So, do you think the same insanity logic might be at play here?

                                Let's face it, the AI, as yet, doesn't seem to be all it's cracked up to be.

                                Seems like they are all racing to an obvious plateau. I wonder what percentage of those budgets were spent on advertising for AI.

                                        Friends with statically generated websites are unnecessary often crawled by these systems.
                                        They ignore established standards like robots.txt and try to avoid any kind of regulation.
                                        They try to force their way to get these information with the same shitty behavior they try to force the LLM shit into each piece of software.

                                          @sebastian @julesbl @PaulaToThePeople @MikeElgan I myself have a couple domains for a couple of years and only recently started writing small articles/essays. It is not much but it is nonetheless a fresh cup of water in a vast desert of disinformation and slop.
