hiberfil.sys - disable hibernation by running powercfg.exe /hibernate off
pagefile.sys - disable virtual memory (advanced system settings, advanced, performance, advanced) although I wouldn't recommend it even if you have plenty of RAM. If you are sure you don't need it then set it to smaller fixed size like 512MB or something.

@shuro I set it to 2.5Gb & everything is still slowing to a crawl... seems like the real culprit re. resource management is the OS itself
