@jolla the more #sailfishos powered devices the better!
And now: Can I get my #Amiga phone with a blackberry type keyboard? All in Amiga styling and plastic?
@themipper @jolla looks nicestalgic idk.. creamy groovy, but i think gonna cost a high price for the rare and no everybody knows that retro hardware

@CarlosARM @jolla yeah, but would probably not cost more than the commodore phone itself. And if people remember commodore than they surely will remember the Amiga.

@jolla Not sure about the blocking web browser and social media part, just let the user do whatever they want. I have no problem with that as the default setting, just let the user unlock it later on. Do not act like the parent of the user.
@jolla@techhub.social @AnimeAndVisial@mastodon.social They allow "sideloading" of APKs, actually, which run in some sort of Android-compatible container. I hope you're right, though Peri Fractic's article on the Callback seems to suggest it is actually locked-down.
Hopefully it'll be "rootable", so there's at least some way for the user to exercise control. That's just fundamental.
-
@jolla first I was like WOW!
Then I was like:"430€! 🤯"
@raketti If you don't have a big data pool to sell for advertisement (respecting privacy), you need to get paid for your product itself.
It's up to you, what you're willing to pay with: Money or personal data.

@Knattodon very true.
️ I’m already moving from iOS to Sailfish with Jolla’s new phone. I was just surprised that a clam phone would cost almost 500€. But, the times we live in, right? -

@AnimeAndVisial @jolla I was thinking the same thing about the "no email" thing, like, I can understand the need to disconnect from work, but email is not a big time consumer, least not for me. Flip side, if I do need to check an email (and people other than my work or advertisers do email me, my roommates frequently send me emails), that means I'll have to get back home to my computer

@themipper @jolla im talking about the commodore phone.. , is suprising that some company make that devices, i know we can do it with the rasperry pi and other wireless circuit

@jolla Not sure I like their marketing, but I like light phones. Any idea how much is this supposed to weight? (And is it real? I have not seen antennas on cellphones for a while...) -

@jolla I hope you retained control of OS updates. KaiOS made that mistake. Among others. Their non inconsiderable number of devices slid into obscurity also because carriers refused to update the bug ridden, security compromised KaiOS 2 and 3.

@jolla I'm trying to be positive about it but saying privacy was designed in while also preinstalling WhatsApp suggests you don't really understand privacy.

@jolla why so expansive

@jolla when they say "99% of Android apps will run, not on Android", is that generally true statement for all Sailfish OS devices?
Has the compatibility layer truly become so powerful?
I am waiting for my Jolla phone (batch 3) and I am ready to compromise on apps, but if true, it would be great, because I won't need to compromise so much after all. -

This means that non-free, proprietary, closed-source apps can't even be installed unless you jump through hoops and set up microG. Even then, if the app itself depends on the Google Play services, it won't run.
Out of the box, the only Android apps you can get are those on F-Droid. On the other hand, Google can't take F-Droid away from Sailfish OS.

Community ports don't have Android App Support (=AAS). 99% can be true as there are so many Android apps, but in my experience around 90% works out of the box or with minimal tricks. 95-98% of apps might start to work with tricks or with limited features. Bank and or governmental apps are the worst ones and usually hit or miss. I have 5 working bank/finance apps tho. Ask me anything you want

#Android #Android Apps #F-Droid #Alien Dalvik #Jolla #Sailfish OS@marting I had a Jolla phone 10 years ago. Back then we didn't have F-droid apps store. It was nowhere near 99%. I recall this number closer to 5%.
Supporting all F-droid apps would be already enough for me, I suppose.
However Commodore 64 is claiming 99% and I want to understand what are the grounds for such claim. -

@Antti98 thank you
!I will definitely take advantage of your knowledge and seek your guidance once I am in possession of my Jolla phone.
By chance do you know if the EU login app might work?
