    @mawhrin
    Unfortunately, on that side of the emacs vs *vi* "war" there is pretty much nothing. The only acceptable one is the de-slopped vim version, I guess?

        @mawhrin@circumstances.run @neovim@hachyderm.io Why not just take #vim? There is also a fork #vimclassic which aims at being #slopfree: https://vim-classic.org/

        @martin @mawhrin @neovim

        vimclassic is a fork of rather old version (8.x), for newer feature it might also be worth looking into evi (that forked from 9.1)

          @gemelen at this stage i am seriously considering moving to emacs, and you need to understand this: i'm using vim as a primary editor since it was distributed on fred fish' disks with software for amigaos. so, more than thirty two years now.

                  @mawhrin @martin

                  I wonder if evi developers would be interested in adding support for a neovim-compatible lua configuration, at least in the lua-enabled builds. I've seen other posts from people wanting to jump from neovim for similar (DHH) reasons, so maybe there's some momentum there.

                          @oblomov

                          This makes me glad I avoid vimisms like the plague. I can live inside nvi happily enough. Really, the only thing I'm hooked on from the vim family is the undo behaviour, and I could retrain myself easily enough given that I only came to vim after years of other vi.

                          I'm regularly helping my students unlearn "go into insert mode to delete things". And they want to make this change as soon as they realize how much extra work they're doing.

                            what happened: i've opened a ticket asking to remove the heinemeier hansson quote; keyes responded to the ticket a few times, first with simply “don't care”, then with more angry elucidation, then closed as not planned, and finally the issue was removed altogether.

                            unfortunately i have only mail receipts, which missed the rage part of the episode.

                            added: another core maintainer of neovim, tj de vries, is scheduled to speak during dhh's omacon. well.

                                      @oblomov @martin @mawhrin I've been happy with vim-classic fwiw, though it's not my primary editor either way these days. Not sure if vim9 (and thus evi) added anything that I personally care about, but obviously YMMV.

                                      (I think maybe they're also backporting some newer changes, but probably only bugfixes rather than features.)
