Hypothetical question for #Electrician

You know how in #Australia your domestinc power lines are rated at 10Amps, but your Granny charger for the #EV drops it down to fuck all and it draws only 1.4KW?

Suppose the Electric Stove line that is rated to 30Amps... is now plugged into your EV charger... Hypothetically speaking, is my house on fire? or can I pull more Watts to charge the EV?

Granny chargers in the US come with two plugs; one for the low amp regular outlet, and one for a higher amp dryer/stove outlet.

The 10A line is being reduced to 6A (1,4 kW) because that is probably the sustained rating - if you were to draw the full 10A for hours on end, your outlet would start to smell funny (and yes, been there, done that).

Yes, pulling 10A or even 16A from a 32A stove line would not be critical as long as you don't add an extension cord to the mix AND are pulling the electricity through a plug that is rated for 16A sustained. Oh, and don't run the stove at the same time, of course.

Whether it is legal or not I don't know.

And just to be clear, I am not an electrician, but I had to read up on this when we were adding an EV and solar and batteries and whatnot to our home, so I had at least some idea about what to ask our electrician for.

No, not YOUR outlet. Your ELECTRICAL outlet would start to smell funny.
