@donni the car to sandwich factor is roughly correct in London
-
iirc, in the 90s you could still very much sell great sandwiches for around $5, get a decent $5000 car, and buy a simple flat for $50,000 outright (using a USD equivalent).
And that's a pricey sandwich!

@donni Institutional investors should be able to set the price of sandwiches through the interloafing rate.

@donni Car Dealership: [scribbling furiously] Forty dollar burger stand... this is going to be huge

@donni My reality, make my own sandwiches. Car 5 years old £15k. Modest 2½ bedroom semi-detached house £350k in a small, unfashionable town in Central Beds.

@donni Can you measure this in units of a large boulder the size of a small boulder? I mean in a Marxist sense.
-
@donni and a sandwich should only cost ~10 minutes of minimum wage, after taxes.
@keithpjolley @donni so a car needs to be less than 10,000 minutes of labour.
Which might be hard.
-
@donni Unfortunately one way to bring this about is to make sandwiches and cars really expensive

@LovesTha @keithpjolley @donni I can get you a beater car that just passed inspection. Used to belong to an old lady

@donni "What do you mean the car costs 100,000 and the sandwich costs 100?"

@donni
That's a lot of bread.@wannabemystiker @donni And a fair bit of dough too!

A house should only cost 4 cars, and a car should cost 1000 sandwiches
@donni back in 1970 new cars were around $3k, houses were ~$17k, and burgers were something under 30 cents. Pretty close?
People like me who are Gen Xers may inherit some of those houses just in time to tear them down, but everyone else later than us are pretty screwed.
I also remember working for an hour at minimum wage in order to afford a fast food meal, and that is probably still the case in most places, unfortunately. -
A house should only cost 4 cars, and a car should cost 1000 sandwiches
@donni nah, cars should be expensive AF and unobtainable to the masses. More expensive than a home.
-
@donni Counterpoint: cities, and even towns, should be designed so that you can live happily without a car. (This would also help with house prices.)
-
A house should only cost 4 cars, and a car should cost 1000 sandwiches
@donni
Roadsters should fall under a special category that pays you at smiles-per-hour :3 -
