When something is not available in the EU you probably don't want it anyway. Like chlorinated chicken, hormone-treated beef, large pickup trucks, and easily available firearms.

@hannorein @me_ According to Apple (https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/06/due-to-dma-siri-ai-delayed-in-eu-for-ios-27-and-ipados-27/) this is because they would need to give other apps the same access to user's data, and wouldn't be able to ensure privacy. Would love to hear the other side's arguments, but reading that press release so far I'm with Apple.
I mean, maybe the point is to let the user decide (if they want another app to have all that access), but that honestly sounds scary. 3rd parties would get access to so much that they can't get right now (think messages, for instance), and I trust OpenAI et al much less than Apple that they would protect that data

@thm76 @me_ But that means there would be practically no competition whatsoever because two companies (Apple and Google) completely own the market. I'd rather not have a feature that is offered by a monopoly. The other reasonable alternative would be for Apple (and Google) to be broken up into separate hardware, software, cloud, and AI businesses.

@hannorein @me_ Apple might need granular permissions for all that personal data that the AI features can access, so users can control what apps, including Siri AI, have access to. Maybe something similar to the Health permissions, where you can easily choose which categories of data to share

I am jealous of countries that prohibit cars like the "Cybertruck".

@michael_w_busch @hannorein it's not prohibited in EU, you just need a truck driving license as its total mass is above 3,5 t
