#Bergen barneasyl, Seminarium Fredericianum, the oldest kindergarden in the city, and – indeed – the nation of #Norway!
Dating back to 1750, it was originally a more secular alternative to the local #Latin school, meant to professionalise the youth in trade and business. In 1851, it became Bergen barneasyl (Bergen Daycare), ostensibly a kindergarden for children under school age – either from poor families, or families with parents who worked outside the home. It cost two shillings per day.
This image is from 1977, a bit later, taken when it was to be rehabilitated. Through the years, the house has been used for several different things, including art magazines, military hospital and other school purposes, but is now a kindergarden again.
