@ObsidianUrbex I like to imagine a family decided to do the "run away to a cabin in the woods" thing but they decided that going into the woods was too normal so they put the cabin on legs over water instead.

But they were also unaccustomed to living in  a cabin on legs over the water so after having one too many fights over who has to swim to the shops today they went back to the woods and only had to deal with bears.

This is Los Angeles River in Burbank, California, and the building is the only remaining part of the set where Half-Life 2 was filmed. There were plans to incorporate parts of the set into a ride at Universal Studios but the test audience found the animatronic head crabs too disturbing.
