@NickEast_IndieWriter @reading @bookstodon @books @joinin It is only in perusing did I come to understand that peruse is a contranym, and I had been only familiar with one of its meanings! Curious if others experienced this…

@MsDK12 Yeah, I'm more familiar with the definition that would probably be closer to skimming 🤔

@NickEast_IndieWriter @reading @bookstodon @books @joinin Also depends on the book type. I read a cookbook differently than a reference book or a philosophical work. It even makes a difference if it is literature or a science fiction novel.

So depending on the book I'm one of the six described readers.

@MeneerDeBruin I often do several of these in the course of reading any book, I think 🤔

There should be "Yeet" there as well, where mid reading you realise something terrible about the author and immediately need to cast the book aside.

@MsDK12 Yes! And glad you wrote this. I came away with "wow, I've always had the wrong idea about 'peruse', thinking of it as something you do in a leisurely way'". And then a bunch of runaway musing on how I absorb a sense of words' meanings that may not always be right. Not to say that never happens, but happy to not add to that pile.

@Taskerland and @vortiwife both start my mornings with "but that author bursts pigeons during coitus" and leads to many yeetingbooks.

You would if they were weirdly live action animated ones with subtitled and SFX made with bleach, lemons and a potato cut.

@NickEast_IndieWriter They didn't include PACE - which is where I have to get up and stomp around, muttering to myself, because I am so ANGRY about what I have read.
