Movie idea: an introverted Finnish boy from Kemijärvi and an extroverted Portuguese girl from Lagos connect on an online forum about #climate action.
They decide to meet halfway. Defying their families wishes to travel by plane they'll travel with three day #interrail passes, the furthest their budget reaches.
Will their love overcome the harsh reality of the European train system?
Naturally some added drama is needed. Some ideas:
As Sami is about to leave he's sees that the once daily connection from Kemi to Haparanda is down. Turns out his older brother has flown a drone into some powerlines while filming the families reindeer herd. Together they fix it just in time.
Thousands of kilometres away Inês has problems of her own as the blistering summer has expanded the tracks, making train traffic impossible. Will she manage to reroute via Ponte Internacional Tui-Valença?

I think @jon can have a small cameo on the French - German border, arguing about Schengen with the German border police.
It holds up the train just long enough for Inês to be able to board it and not miss a connection.

@Pepijn I would like to propose to make it into a mini series that switches between the two protagonists for each episode.
(Edit to add:) This gives you more time to explore each country and give each episode a different feel based on local culture and railway system.

@quixoticgeek Sure. Whatever works with the actors. I think it'd be nice to get some real locals from both ends of #europe

Some people met on the train:
- rude and offending white business guy compkaining aboug a three-minute-delay
- train nerd, talking two hours about different signaling systems. @langsamfahrt can provide contacts.
- Parents following their little children exploring the length of the train. Twice.
- Relaxed couple bringing their own tablecloth to the bord bistro to celebrate their kanelbullar and tea/coffee. -
@Pepijn where is halfway, Haparanda?
@bovine3dom Haparanda to Kemijärvi is about 200 km. Malmö to Haparanda is about 1500 km.And Malmö to Lagos (Portugal) is about 3100 km. I think that puts the middle somewhere just north of Frankfurt am Main.
That is, if I managed to pick "only train routes" and my rough distance estimates aren't too far off.
If you pick Helsinki (and ignore any route that takes you on a ferry from Sweden to Finland...), the halfway point is approximately Hamburg.

Fantastic idea. I'm sure EU would support the project too. I remember an action (?) tv series a some years ago called "The Team" I think this was also supported by EU funding.

What is Lagos doing in Portugal? When I went there, it was in Nigeria.
