Yooooo, this is exciting. I've always written off #arm #chomebook as un-saveable since they can't be jailbroken with MrChomebox.
I just got like 50 of these Asus C100P arm chromebooks that are "expired". Digging around, it looks like #postmarketOS will run on this!
Still stuff to figure out but DAMN this is promising. Being able to save even ARM chromebooks is epic. Dammit I love #linux and #openSource
@codemonkeymike iirc the RK3288 in this device was used to develop Panfrost GPU driver for Mali at the beginning (and the rk3399 Samsung afterwards?)
It won't be fast by todays standards but it's fun

@codemonkeymike Cool! I was recently donated a (x86_64) HP 14 G4, which I'm still deciding what to do with since it only has 16GB of storage. I'm leaning towards building my own images of openfyde and hosting my own OTA server currently.

@Techwizz yeah the 16g of storage ones are rough. I actually have a blessed way i've been upcycleing them with debian 13 XFCE. I'm thinking about doing a video and article on it

@codemonkeymike Yes pmOS ist pretty nice and lightweight. I slapped it on my old #Thinkpad just with one dd command. Wanted to try #posh on desktop

@Techwizz I enable unattented upgrades with debian 13. It won't auto upgrade to debian 14, but debian has such a long support window, this seemed like a good tradeoff

@Techwizz "Debian 13 "Trixie" is expected to be released in August 2025, with standard security support lasting for three years until
August 9, 2028. Following the standard support period, it will receive Extended Long Term Support (ELTS), extending its life to roughly June 30, 2030" -
@Techwizz I enable unattented upgrades with debian 13. It won't auto upgrade to debian 14, but debian has such a long support window, this seemed like a good tradeoff

I'm also considering making a desktop/laptop version of my distro from scratch (currently just for virtualization, but very small base), and just include xfce as a DE and flatpak. It's immutable using BTRFS snapshots and is likely feasible here.

@Techwizz i mean there's no wrong way to Linux! use whatever calls to you. But debian is always a good boring, but solid, choice

@codemonkeymike Oh that's a funky one. PostmarketOS is what I'm running on my arm64 Chromebook and it works fantastic. I had to manually change some of the keyboard layout, but otherwise good. I'm interested to hear later how it went with this one on a armv7 32-bit CPU.

@codemonkeymike It's very very similar to GNOME. Overall, a good usable system for browsing the internet, office etc., didn't try gaming.

@codemonkeymike Nice, I used on of these with Arch Linux ARM as a study computer when studying in libraries for about two years, until I upgraded to the RK3399 C101P. Having a small, light, fanless computer was really useful.
