I was looking at 3D printed whistles the other day and wondered how hard it would be to make one that just snaps onto a jacket zipper, so you'd always have a whistle with you. Looked at someone's 3D whistle to come up with basic design, experimented making different size chambers for multiple tones and futzed around with variety of ideas to attach zipper pull vs. easy printing. Spoiler alert, most zipper pulls are 2mm thick and 12mm wide, except all of those that aren't!

@jerzone good idea. I might print a couple of those. Did you come up with anything that works well?

@akuake I think so? I'm doing a PLA print now (yellow was PETG) to see how it does on the overhangs. I'll post a link to the model once I upload it.

Very cool to have as a zipper pull! The ones I got can be on a keychain, but this is better.

@czarbucks Here's an "x-ray" view of it hooked to puffy jacket zipper. The program that readies this for printing estimates about 8 cents worth of filament. Might try to make one as a single chamber, it would be about the width of the zipper pull or even a little narrower.

I have a few Aztec Death Whistles but they're all ceramic. I wonder how small you could make something that could be printed and have similar audio properties. I only bring these suckers out for halloween because they make a really visceral, terrifying sound. I was sitting under a tree in my front yard with one on Halloween night when a group of probably 10 kids and parents walked by. I gave them a blast and they stopped walking and sort of went into a defensive circle.

Here's an article about them and they look like small version make the same horrible sound. Just a thought and I'll be taking my smallest one with me to the next #NoKings rally!

They make a sound that gives you instant goosebumps/horripilation. According to that article more than one blown simultaneously makes a resonance that's quite amazing! I was going to buy a bunch of vuvuzelas for the next protest but I'm thinking that a chorus of death whistles would be even better!
