    @rbreich it doesn’t need to; the difficulty is knowing how to change it. Voting is just an illusion of democracy isn’t it?

          @rbreich

          More to the point, since Citizens United we have permitted the wealthy to *buy* politicians and thus completely steer policy to their liking.

            @rjk @GezThePez @rbreich During the time between WWII & the 70's we had a nation & an economy that was supporting "We The People" for probably the first time in history. Equal Rights, education, home ownership & more. Biden/Harris offered that up. Returned Unions, tried to get money into the hands of the people & had those 5 Bills passed been allowed to work we would have been well on our way to that economy. It took the GOP most of 55yrs to destroy it, Biden/Harris almost had in back in 4.

                @GezThePez @rjk @rbreich

                Whether anomaly or not it showed that Government can infact work for "We The People" even tho in that time it didn't cover all peoples. It was in the direction to do so. The 60's & 70's have been mostly dismissed as "Sex Drugs & rock & roll" & antiwar. That is far from what was actually going on. New ideas were more than just a Moon Landing, Just the average family could live as we did with advantages not seen in the past. It also shows that it can be done again. Now.

                  Not sure the argument holds: conservatives AND progressives alike claim to fight for justice (equality or equity? you choose), and for dignity (is it social or individual?) and wealth.

                  Everyone on the left already agrees on what these words mean for them, but that doesn't make this a strong political argument to build on, if we actually want to challenge our opponents (the obscenely wealthy)

                  This might read more like a tribal affirmation than a call to action.

                      Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it's the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice. It doesn't have to be this way.

                        @rbreich

                        More precisely it’s a result of the few who get away with consolidating ever greater levels of economic and political decision-making power, culminating in absolute authority over the population.

                        It is a product of material conditions that make consolidation of power easier end of social conditions where the many lose the ability to check the behavior of the few, like destroying unions
