Windows 11 built-in weather app eats more than 1.2 GB of memory just to tell you if it is going to rain or hot today. Hah. Linux and Unix users just type:

    curl wttr.in
    curl wttr.in/city_name_here
    curl wttr.in/nyc
    curl wttr.in/moon
    curl wttr.in/london

@nixCraft KDE has a weather widget - not sure how much memory it uses, but probably not a lot.

@nixCraft wttr in didn't give the right overnight temperature for my location - maybe due to the data source used, hour cutoff for nighttime, or weather changes since the last data update. So that might be something where Microsoft has an advantage. Like, I wouldn't rely on this if I were worried that my tomatoes might freeze overnight.

@nixCraft I really wonder how they manage to do that… are they running a local LLM model in there or what? Like this is no mistake or programming error…

                            @nixCraft
I look out the window, or check our own cheap weather station or go to www.met.ie

I hate desktop / toolbar space being taken with weather apps on Windows, Linux or Android.

There is a weather widget in the Linux toolbar/places Clock widget that takes location and displays temp & wind. I don't use it.
On Win10 it was horrible getting rid of all the widgety gunge in the taskbar.

Windows 11 built-in weather app eats more than 1.2 GB of memory just to tell you if it is going to rain or hot today. Hah. Linux and Unix users just type:

                                  curl wttr.in
                                  curl wttr.in/city_name_here
                                  curl wttr.in/nyc
                                  curl wttr.in/moon
                                  curl wttr.in/london

@nixCraft What a time to be alive reading this as "praise" to compare

"Apple’s Weather app on macOS is a single native process using 246.7MB of memory."

What have we done to computers

@nixCraft I personally just look at the sky and sigh in despair. No RAM involved.
