@elduvelle You know how a straight ruler allows you to draw a very neat and straight line on paper? A french curve is like a ruler but it has all sorts of curves by design, this allows you to draw very neat and precise curves on paper (as long as you have an appropriate sized french curve).

@afreytes @BenHourahine Inkscape is vector software, so you can pretty much drag things around however you want. I want to say you can control how many points there are on your line/curve tool, but I last used it when Flash was still alive, so maybe, maybe not. Ultimately, they're still Bezier curves either way, but looking up what a French curve is, I'm not sure you're getting it stock in anything and might have to settle for whatever has a plugin.
I would offer that Paint.net has a bustling plugin community and maybe someone had the same specific need, or maybe you could even ask for it if you don't find it elsewhere, but I would honestly try Inkscape first. Both are free.

@afreytes Aye, the curve tool should do the trick (if I'm understanding your needs correctly, I have some actual French curves in my stationary box).

@afreytes @elduvelle should be noted that the term "French curve" isn't really rigidly mathematically defined, it's just some arbitrary curves the ruler designer decided looked good and worked well for whatever purpose the ruler was made (e.g. cutting clothes patterns)
so i am not really aware of any software that has specific support for french curves rather than just for beziers

Libredraw can definitely do it just from a new window, Inkscape has more options, but there's no reason not to work on one and export to the other as your needs vary or become more complicated?

@Printdevil Aye, but Inkscape is rather less user friendly than Draw methinks. I use Inkscape all the time but certainly wouldn't call it simple. @afreytes

#inkscape is my absolute favourite. the path editing tool is good for all kinds of curves,
