BABY GOATS!!! The first mama has 2 healthy babies!
They are dried off, warmed up, and starting to try to nurse so I'm back inside warming up for a bit.
@sundogplanets yay!

the two little ones seem to have very different voices. is it normal that one is so low and the other so high? or are they "saying" something different and the sound of the voices would change if they say something different?
(hope i could convey my question)

New babies all set for the night.
How much I have to reshuffle the goats tonight will depend on who has babies. Maybe none of the other 4 mamas who were due today will have babies until tomorrow? That would make things a lot easier... (I thought I had another heat lamp, but I guess the only extra one I have is over the ducklings that I impulse-bought the other day. Oops.)
At the risk of Too Much Goat, I'll keep going with this thread for today's #BabyGoatCountdown adventures, whatever they end up being.
No new baby goats overnight or early this morning, I am very appreciative of their patience, because it would have been really hard to goat-shuffle at 2am.
It is very cold and snowy today, and I kept all the goats who look close to kidding inside the barn stalls where it's a little warmer. At least it's pretty!

We decided to name these first two babies Marmite and Vegemite (in honour of our recent Aotearoa New Zealand trip). They are absurdly cute still.
How many more baby goats will happen today in between my zoom meetings?

@sundogplanets Zoom from the barn! No work will get done, but everyone will be better off.

@sundogplanets Do you use cameras or do you have to shuffle out to the barn at 2am to check on them?

They are very, very cute!

Hope your meetings are as short as they need to be and the rest of the mamas give birth during the day!

@sundogplanets she sounds like a human!
@deborahh Yeah! For-real goats sound like humans imitating a goat

@babblingaboutstuff I think it's the mama and the baby, so yeah, the babies start off with much higher-pitched voices. Super cute.

Everybody.@wdormann I once brought 2 bottle babies to my kids' school. The principal was completely enamored, even after one of them peed on the floor in his office, he asked (hopefully) if I needed any help escorting the babies to the classrooms they were visiting. Goats are irresistible!
