if only we had lots and lots of examples of easier systems projects using similar techniques that entirely failed and now don’t exist as functioning projects

what are bun and rsync, why do you keep saying those names

I really liked having fully working linux systems for… like 7 out of the 30+ years I’ve been using this fucking thing

we even briefly got gaming before they decided to come and fuck it all up in exchange for money

maybe one day we’ll tell the next generation what it was like owning hardware and briefly having an operating system that mostly wasn’t entirely terrible to use

@zzt you're right to push back on that, i shouldn't have force pushed deleting all branches on the server

@zzt do you remember when that was a new thing and we literally couldn't believe it could be that bad?

and now we just can't believe it's still that bad.

but nah, I’m sure it’ll be fine, I keep seeing the take on here that somehow the kernel doesn’t matter at all for a desktop and nobody will notice when it breaks

you know, the code that literally all of your applications call into, that makes all your hardware work

the thing that was the point of being on linux at all

            the kernel????

@zzt the people of 2001 had been violently disabused of this notion before it could form by the infliction of Windows ME and its garbage-ass kernel.

Clearly the kernel doesn't matter because we're all just running everything in a virtual little box that can't see anything else and the kernel is in fact just a host for endless amounts of these boxes and nobody ever actually runs software natively right? In fact clearly the web browser should just be the kernel right? Nobody has ever used "software" before, just "apps" and apps live on the web, right? Guys I'm a fuckin genius give me 10 splebtillion dollars I have invented the future of computing. /s

Even when translating to what the phrase is poorly trying to pretend to be different from, I have absolutely no fucking clue what "social warrior project" is meant to convey because "social justice warrior project" is just not a phrase I can make any sense out of. It doesn't scan at all.

@daemonspudguy @zzt I mean, also isn’t the idea of a high-quality kernel that supports older hardware (I know they just dropped like first-gen Pentiums and there was some furor over it) all free of charge kind of a social good thing if not social “justice”?
