    @EvilCartyen
    I have often successfully fed kids spaghetti Bolognese based on #vegetarian mince meat. It's almost indistinguishable from dead cow in that dish. And the price is the same.

    @mrundkvist

    I'm not really a fan of replacing meat with something else in traditional meat-based dishes, I'd rather invent new dishes or cook traditional veggiedishes.

    In my personal opinion, only lasagna is lasagna, only a proper bolognese is a bolognese. I suppose it's semantics, but I _know_ what a bolognese is supposed to taste like and that ain't it.

      Good luck with getting your kids to adopt this perspective. 😄

        @mrundkvist I mean, my kids are picky eaters at the best of times, so whatever perspective I adopt one or two are guaranteed to refuse to eat regardless.

        I try not to take it personally, but I am also not going to compromise on my own tastes for people who seemingly roll a dice every day to decide if they want to eat dinner ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

          What is your family's opinion of indigenous East Asian tofu dishes?

          And beyond that -- many East Asian dishes barely have any protein in them at all. You don't actually need that with every meal.

            I am going to look into those more, we're generally pretty into East Asian dishes. I have a lot of cookbooks I can consult.

            We get plenty of carbs, though. The struggle is typically to get my kids to eat things which are NOT carbs.

              @EvilCartyen Put oil, soy and a little chili on any vegetable. (-;

                You obviously don't have kids who are picky eaters 😄 Or at least not picky in the same way mine are.

                Anyway, I will be cooking tofu katsu tonight - probably with steamed rice and a savoury onion-based sauce - and I think it will be a success.
