Since 1894, an electrical boat named #Beffen has been scooting across the Vågen bay in the city center of #Bergen. Here it is in the early 00s, 1900s, that is, with Bergenhus Fortress in the background.
In the beginning, there were fire small ferries in six routes around Bergen. Named BEF, Bergen Electrical Ferry-company, they were quickly dubbed Beffen (yes, Dutch people, we know it means something else in your language). Originally they exclusively ran on electrical batteries, but a diesel ferry was introduced in 1926, and most of the ferries through the 1900s were diesel boats.
Today, there are three ferries running two routes – one route across the bay like always, and in summer, a scenic route out to different museums in the city.
