@HarHarLinks Hi there! We will provide more information on the website explaining how the solution could look like in practice asap. In short, we favor an approach where a third-party agent can manage such requests and give (based on user choices) specific consent to individual controllers.

You can check out ADPC or navigator.consent for examples for how this can be implemented technically

@noybeu @HarHarLinks so there would be one centralised 3rd party player who has all my consent and browsing data at one place? What could possibly go wrong?

🍪 There's one thing we can all agree on: we're fed up with misleading cookie banners. 🚫 And we finally have a chance to get rid of them!

💡 The solution? Simple! Express your privacy preferences once, for example via your browser or device, and have them respected permanently.

It's not clear what this could really mean. Will there be a register of cookie purposes that domain owners can sign up with, so that every possible use of cookies can be identified so UAs could possibly give users the option to choose? Seems unlikely. Or is it just some very broad generalisations such as currently found in many intrusive cookie banners - essential, optional, none; which is of limited use.

Then if I want to set a cookie for a specific function you may or may not want working, I still need to tell people what and why. (Of course, *I* don't use an intrusive banner, just a little note.)

@groxx @noybeu the "do not track" feature was removed from firefox because most sites completely ignored it. Which will probably also happen with this new proposal.

@noybeu lmao the private surveillence industry will literally just ignore it. you need to actually make this shit extremely illegal with punishment of prison time, not include a millionth opt-out pretty please no tracking button.

@noybeu Another thing is I want to give site specific consent, e.g. I like showing Valve and some other sites that I'm on Linux, so that they can focus on optimise for these system.

Ok, certainly there will be a way for me to configure this but that leads to the question if site owners should have the right to remind me and ask again. Basically showing the good old banner again.

If yes, than mainly all sites will stick to showing the banner on every landing page.

As a site owner I fully agree with you on the point that users should decide per site whether to agree to analytics or not.

As a site user, I reject all cookies always. I straight up don't even read or process these banners anymore
Some websites havr maybe 5 cookies to agree to. Others have 500. It's so much to read and sit down and understand. Especially on the web where time is limited and there are so many sites to visit always

                  I am conflicted 😕

It... already exists. Most browsers give the option to refuse all cookies.
It also already existed before the RGPD, that's why the RGPD was completly useless about dealing with cookies.
