As mentioned before, my employer has banned the Meta "Pervert" Glasses at work.

@veronica i learned about that watch from this message
The S11 chip also features an upgraded Neural Engine, which allows the watch to process live conversations in the background as part of Siri AI's Recap and Live Rewind feature.
yikes
@matt Yeah, that's the reason for the ban.

@veronica How does that work in practice? Everyone has to declare which glasses and watch they wear?

@holsta They expect employees to follow the rules of the workplace. The glasses may be banned in the country as a whole, so that will definitely help too.

What’s with the new Apple Watch? -

@veronica I sat down at a lunch a few weeks ago and someone was wearing the glasses.
That suddenly ruled out a whole range of conversation topics.

@veronica Same! Two of my clients have banned Apple hardware from the premises. The guideline is anything that runs Siri AI or is capable of video and audio recording. It’s crazy how people are ok with surveillanceware.

@veronica what’s wrong with the watches from their perspective?

@veronica I'm envious.

@veronica
I wanna meet the people offended by being disallowed deceit and invasion and theft because they flex-paid a violent toy. And they can explain themselves as adults with needs, to my satisfaction. Or get fucking goggle-smacked.Entitlement America is over.

@Kierkegaanks @veronica @iamkonstantin iPhones (and Apple Watches, even AirPods) have listened in the background for “Hey Siri” (and later, just “Siri”) by default for over a decade. The option can be disabled, but when it’s enabled, the mic is always hot, and the audio is routed to an on-device recognition model listening for the trigger. That model can’t be inspected by people outside the company, though, so we’ve always just trusted that Apple devices with the feature enabled aren’t doing more with the audio data.

@veronica @bob_zim @iamkonstantin yes but i don’t know of a case where the setting is automatically reversed with an update or something
