For a custom infrared remote control, I thought I was going to have to cut a window of IR-transmissive acrylic, such as Plexiglass 3143, but I just learned that PLA is IR transmissive.

For a custom infrared remote control, I thought I was going to have to cut a window of IR-transmissive acrylic, such as Plexiglass 3143, but I just learned that PLA is IR transmissive. I may be able to print the entire enclosure of the remote using ordinary black PLA filament, and not specifically need a window. I'm guessing that the characteristics of 3d-printed PLA won't be as good as cast IR-transmissive acrylic, but perhaps it will be good enough.
