People often ask what's taking so long with @pidgin 3 and a recent review comment embodies this pretty clearly.
We move API around to make it more intuitive. In doing so, we tend to surface old odd decisions that need to be addressed, especially when it comes to our migration documentation. The doc is a careful balance of telling developers what they need to know while trying to not completely overload them with details.
