          @afewbugs been going on for a good few decades/centuries (I once had a 1950s cycling book, which said you should cut down to 5-10 cigs per day if training for a race, and avoid drinking whisky or other hard spirits *during* the event 😁 )

            @afewbugs just ignore the chemical burns to gums and mouths, receding gums, tooth decay from the delivery mechanism, plus all of the usual nicotine issues of increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, constricted blood vessels...

              I am helped by nicotine patches though at this point I am probably a bit addicted. But I do have cognitive difficulties since covid. Most drugs are meant to improve a problem, not improve functioning of healthy people. At first I used it 24/7 with no noticeable impact on sleep or blood pressure. Now I do use less at night. I'm not sure if the positive impact has worn off a bit but I am now rarely in bed all day and this used to be a regular occurance.
