My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.

Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.

Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too.

Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.

    – George

@georgetakei I’m very sorry for your loss.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but he sounded like a thoughtful, considerate and decent man by all accounts.

@georgetakei Though Ensign Chekov's departure is sad, my own heart is a little lighter knowing that my mother will have a skilled navigator to guide her journey into the ether (she died yesterday, aged 91)...

He was also incredible as a villain in Babylon 5. A great actor is now within the stars. My thoughts to his friends and family.

@georgetakei - A wonderful human and talented actor. I especially loved him as Bester in Babylon 5.

A sad day, but hopefully a life fully lived, and definitely someone who worked to leave such a positive mark on so many.

@georgetakei So many fond memories of mr Koenig. I have regrettably never met any of my Star Trek of Babylon 5 heroes in real life, but you, mr Koenig and your Star Trek colleges and his Babylon 5 colleges all have a special place in my heart and memory.

My heartfelt condolences to you and to all who hold a special place in their heart for Walter Koenig.

                                best Regards,

                                  – George

#rip , Walter Koenig. "Koenig" means king in German, and that's what you have been to me!

We called our first car Pavel and it still has a Chekov sticker on the left side.

                                    Ruhe in Frieden Walter ❤️
