@marjolica @thordis this must be a regional or foreign assessment of things. Even into the early 60s there was rationing and food shortages, everything was in black and white, people were wearing ex-forces demob clothing. Houses were missing and bomb craters were in every street. It certainly wasn’t a time of ‘boom’. It’d be a significant time before any rebuilding could be afforded and the onset of ‘swinging London’ in the late 60s was more a public relations effort than anyone’s actual reality. Maybe in other countries it was, but certainly not in the real world of post-war Britain.

Could be. Gen X were mostly too young to vote against the new wave of neoliberalism in the 80s, but still hung onto some of the benefits before they were completely stripped away for the Millennials.
Gen X is also much smaller than both the Boomer and Millennial generations so that might be a factor.

Gen X is a pretty small group comparatively. It was the effect of the latter Vietnam era combined with more mothers joining the workforce. We were truly the latchkey generation. There have been studies attributing the crime dip of the early to mid 1990s to Gen X being so much smaller than the other gens during the prime "crime" ages. I still know of some paying off their student debt, too, sadly. We're an odd group, overall! -

It's a bit ridiculous calling myself a "boomer" given that I was still in kindergarten when the Beatles broke up and I share none of their growing-up experiences, but marketers love oversimplifying things.

Yeah the boomer designation really covers two generations with two very different life experiences. The ones at the older end are old enough to be parents of those of us at the younger end, and I don't relate to them/their experiences at all.

I picked Gen X, but really I'm one of those middling Oregon Trail people who fits cleanly in neither the X nor the Millennial box. Ultimately I have decided that the dividing line should be century of high school graduation, which is why I choose as I did. -

FYI: The correct spelling is "millennial", not "millenial". You've left out one of the "n". -
@marjolica @thordis there's no one definitive definition. I've also seen
1946-1964 - baby boomers
1965-1984 - gen x
1985-2005 - millennialsEtc... as that way each generation is exactly 20 years.
The origin stories podcast had an episode last week called "boomers" which talks about the various ways the generations can be defined.

@darkphoenix @marjolica @thordis i consider myself gen x more than I do a millennial. I'd use the term xenial, if it didn't annoy me so much.
