    I still don't understand federation and defederation. I know a lot of Japanese-language instances are defederated (or unfederated?) from here because when I look up hashtags in Japanese, only like 1 or 2 instances appear. But one post from misskey dot design appeared on my home feed, and I was able to boost it. The person's account shows zero following/followers, which seems unlikely given how many posts they have.
    If I try to follow this account, is that a problem? If the instance was blocked, would this account be completely invisible to me instead? Are blocking and defederating the same?

    If somebody could just point me to a good resource? I looked at fedi.tips but it didn't explain what I was looking for.

      @mllsc @FediTips i migrated from mstdn.social because they were limiting(or somthing like that) misskey.io and images from .io was not loading. Now ohai.social has the same problem.

        @ib @mllsc

        If you don't like the way a server moderates, you can move your account to a different server or set up your own server.

        If you're unsure why a server has been defederated, it may be listed on your own server's website's About page or you can ask your own server's admin for the reason.

        I think in that particular case, the server being limited or suspended was posting material that breaks server rules and may be illegal in many countries: https://tweaking.thebad.space/location/215f6cc8-039e-48eb-9339-3844d376828c

          @mllsc

          Profiles can sometimes look blank if your server hasn't noticed them before. You can see what a profile really looks like by viewing its "original page". More info about this here: https://fedi.tips/why-does-someones-account-page-look-completely-blank-is-it-really-blank

          If you follow a profile, your server will start noticing its posts made after that moment and will (eventually) start updating its follower numbers too.

          Defederating means when a server totally cuts off connections to another server. It can only be done by server admins.
