These plans promote "European open alternatives to non-EU proprietary solutions in critical domains."It's very encouraging that the EU is choosing #opensource. The EDIC Digital Commons is a great vehicle for for this. I'm also happy with the recognition for the national OSPO's and the official establishment of an EU OSPO network.

@Gina Yes! The Open Source Strategy is by far the best part of this Package IMHO, and it explicitly acknowledges the importance of existing #FOSS communities like around @Mastodon and #Linux.
The legislative (arguably more important) rest of the Package (#CADA), however, is mostly a massive spending spree of public money into the #AI and data centre industry. Very sad.

@Gina @EUCommission I think this is very welcome. The USA tech companies have shown not to be able to distance themselves from USA-first or even USA-only positions, and as such have been very actively disqualifying themselves
Sad.
The open source route very clearly leaves a door open to future collaboration.

@EUCommission btw the EU OSPO network already exists through the EC OSPO (thank you @gijs ), but nice to see it formalised
