"In a rare capitulation, Trump did remove the post, but he refused to apologize for posting it. Such an act—especially during the opening days of Black History Month—would be a career-ending move for a political leader of any party in a more humane era of American politics. Trump has shrugged it off, but I argue that we should register this as another bright line being crossed, one with knowable chilling implications."

Recently published research shows that Trump’s ability to degrade his white supporters’ moral sensibilities is real and measurable (h/t to Andrew Whitehead for pointing me to this research)."

@wdlindsy The fact that the best president that usa has ever had is a black man drives him out of his mind. Obama was a better man by every metric that could be measured. But at the end of the day it is just a dick measuring contest which Obama probably won as well.

Oh, apart from the fact, that every US american looks dumber every time he apears in any media?
The fact that what you call "democracy" put someone like that in charge of your country ....everyone in the rest of the civlized world is laughing at you all.

"The best way to understand the president’s motivations is to find him at his most unfiltered, which is to say, on social media, late at night. @wdlindsy

That rare climbdown and the attempts to pin the blame on an anonymous White House staffer are unlikely to prevent the episode from illuminating a topic that much of the media has seemed reluctant to confront head on; that Trump’s behavior, online and in public, has been growing more reckless and raises serious questions about his mental acuity and his fitness for office.

On social media, whisperings that Trump is displaying signs of cognitive decline have increased in recent weeks.

Jesus, white people would rather attribute starkly racist comments to "cognitive decline" than admit that the white supremacist they put in power is a fucking racist, huh?

Like, I'm not saying Trump's not in cognitive decline, I think it's patently obvious he is.

But it's just as obvious that he's a racist, and always has been, and it's very telling that of both of these facts, we're choosing to acknowledge the cognitive decline rather than the racism.

@wdlindsy the other articles you linked to are much better, but yikes, Robert Tait, is this really how you're spinning it? 😬

@Tattie Given that Tait's article places front and center in its headline the words "Trump’s toxic, racist video" and that he goes on to speak of "Trump’s highly racist and offensive late-night Truth Social post," I'm going to take him at his word when he says there's "chatter" on social media about Trump's dementia. And that he's not in the least attributing the toxic racism to dementia, but pointing to conversations which say that that toxic racism gets untethered more & more due to dementia.

@wdlindsy look, I'm just wondering why, when arguably the most powerful person on earth does a racist thing, we're suddenly talking of his "cognitive decline" rather than staying on the racism.

Is it possible that talking about racism and power makes us white people a little bit uncomfortable?

@wdlindsy In Germany, millions never regretted voting for Hitler until the 8th Air Force by day and the RAF by night blasted and burned their homes to ashes and rubble. Some not until they faced armed occupation by furious Russian soldiers who had literally walked all the way from Stalingrad to Berlin.

As for the Russian people, they didn't get to vote for or against Stalin at all.
