    I know very little about office work. What a mystifying strange world that I've only seen and read about, and occasionally breezed through when a boss has been hired to photograph all the staff or something!

      The only thing I really know about office jobs is that rarely do they seem to make people very happy? It's just something to do, and ideally remotely

        @sinituulia I enjoy bookkeeping and also books, so this is a no-brainer

          @sinituulia

          I started out working in research labs, then moved into the "office work" world. In my estimation, office jobs make people lose their minds.

          People who work in offices are often very psychologically removed from the end-goal of their work, and they tend to fixate instead on office politics and other petty nonsense to the detriment of that goal.

          More often than not, working in an office feels like going back to high school, except the people acting like children are full-grown adults who should know better.

            @sinituulia
            My last proper office job was to receive reports from my staff, check and rubber stamp them, then pass them up to my manager.
            Occasionally (as much as I could wrangle it) I would go out on site to check the work in progress to make sure the reports were accurate.

            I walked out of that job, taking all my leave in lieu of notice, and went self employed as a carpenter, flat pack assembler, and laminate floor layer, until I qualified as a cabinet maker.

              @sinituulia office jobs can be okay. It really depends on what the job is and who the peoples working with are. I have had awful ones and decent ones. Being the graphic designer helps because I have to inspire folks most of the time and its a rarer skill in a big company so I feel I get an allure to my role that people enjoy being around (since its less boring than spreadsheets).

                @sinituulia
                My colleague once mentioned that one of the best things for wellbeing at work is if someone has a "work best friend" and those people tend to have best wellbeing and productivity scores. So yeah depends on the fit in a lot of ways, like someone else mentioned there is the social hierarchy / politics side of it that can be exhausting.

                  Yes, it *really* depends on what the people you work with are like.

                    A gardener, even one working inside an office building, is not really what I'd call an office job.

                    Also, quite hard to do remotely.

                      @sinituulia Fun fact, I've been a city gardener('s seasonal helper) for one fall season! Also, all you need to know about office jobs can be learned by watching the movie "Office Space"

                                @sinituulia It was ok, mostly cold and wet as it was during the fall, but we had a good crew. Probably would've enjoyed it during the summer much more!
