I should be excited about the Artemis II launch, but I just can’t.
The NASA administrator is appointed by Trump, and is thus directly tied to the orange clown, the Artemis program is kind of a clusterfuck of a space program, and finally after discovering problems with the Artemis I heat shield during re-entry, NASA has made changes to the structure of the Artemis II heat shield and to the re-entry profile.
All of this has killed any excitement, I might have had.
@nerdd Kinda feel the same way - but watching the live feed I can still be excited by all the astronaut & science & engineering stuff, even though it pisses me off that I have to claw my way through the MAGA feelings to get there...
Also, the crew is a single father, a woman, a black guy & a Canadian, so at least we can be sure that the orange assclown & his minions are still seething with anger right now.

@nerdd Why it's a clusterfuck of a space program?

@jwcph I guess somebody at NASA must have had big enough gonads and sway to put the foot down and convince somebody that it was impossible to switch out the crew.

@nerdd aaaaahhh, jeg sad godt og tænkte over, hvor du mon var. Jeg forstår dig godt. Jeg er bare så fascineret.

@auser The SLS has been and continues to be expensive, even though it is somewhat of a solution in search of a problem. It is also not entirely clear what the point of Artemis actually is. Not too long ago (like a month or so) the lunar gateway was scrapped in favor of building a base on the surface, and then the timeline going forward seems waaaaay too optimistic considering how slow progress has been going so far.

@nerdd I'm not sure if I understand but if having a space station around the moon is not necessary the best option is just to land on the moon directly. Which was the point of having a lunar space station I think.

@IbenChristiane Det er også fascinerende, men altså..

@auser It depends entirely on what the point of the Artemis program is, if the lunar gateway makes sense or not. And I am not sure the people calling the shots have any idea of what they want to achieve.

@nerdd You have to believe They
️ tried - so yes, apparently NASA held firm... -
