"why are people so upset that i used AI for a throwaway image that's just a tiny part of a much larger work"

@baldrosary healthy discussion starts with you showing hole
@shnizmuffin clearly not gonna go anywhere, so I'm afraid I'll have to block you

@eniko Even if there wouldn't be all the other concerns, just "not liking it" should be reason enough when it comes to art of all things, which has no inherent value, only the value the beholder attributes to it.
Not putting effort or intent in a part of your art surprisingly reduces the value for the beholders who value effort and intent above volume and content.

@eniko I literally clicked off an article this morning because it lead with an AI generated image. Easiest tell the information in the site is not gonna be trustworthy.
@MusingsofaBoredSystem @eniko I was watching a YouTube video I thought was interesting. About 5 minutes in, I noticed something off about one of the graphics. I paused and studied it, and sure enough, it was AI. Then, I went back and looked more closely at some of the others, and whatever wasn't just scraped from Google Images was AI. I was so disappointed, because it was a topic I was interested in, too, but I just stopped the video because I couldn't trust it.

@baldrosary humans show hole all the time
@shnizmuffin @baldrosary Humans usually get PAID to show holes. Like OnlyFans.

@AdmiralMemo @baldrosary only humans with remarkable holes.

@shnizmuffin @baldrosary I'm not marking my holes in the first place, let alone REmarking them.

@AdmiralMemo @baldrosary Twisting uncomfortably, staring at the half finished super Mario fire flower, he yells, "Do it right the first time!"

@Noisecolor @eniko all of the above I'd consider a great skill issue.
-
@Noisecolor @eniko lol you just made a bad point, but ok you know everything about me, that'll help you to sleep at night if I'm just an uniformed person. No person that knows anything would disagree with you, you're infallible!

@Noisecolor I'm sorry I only saw your message on my cellphone originally. Now that I can see your PFP with better definition it makes your reply extremely more funny.

@Noisecolor sorry man I have no idea how art or design is done lmao that's peak

@spaceg
Then I'm happy for you.
Have a nice day. Bye. -
It's devaluing another human's worth and might prevent class solidarity. Which is likely by design. The writers think art and music are easy. The musicians think writing and art are easy. The artists think music and writing are easy. Everybody else thinks "it's all easy and I could do it if I had the time". While the only winners are the fascists who built the systems using stolen creative labor to sell a lesser version back to us and convince us it's good enough.
I've never understood this. I struggle to say I'm a musician, but I enjoy music and playing instruments.
Music is hard, and I know because I do it, but also Visual art, writing and other arts are also hard! If they were easy I'd do them.
It'd be awesome to make beautiful paintings and write interesting stories but its hard, and it takes significant time and effort to learn and improve.
-
@eniko Someone got upset with me earlier today because I asked them how I could trust an article that had an AI image in it. They said the article was good. I repeated my question and got blocked. This is the message they missed.
How could you trust an article that had no AI image in it?

My boss is a musician in a band. He's still mad about drum machines and doesn't think LLMs can make real music.
He's used LLMs to create "art" to go along with some of our vulnerability meetings and thinks they will completely replace programmers.
I had a talk with him about it. I explained the Gell-Mann amnesia effect and how it can lead you to believe genAI is uniquely bad at the things you know a lot about, but somehow good at everything else. He stopped making "art" after that, at least.
It's very easy to fall into that trap because the people who know what they are doing make it look easy when they do it.
