@remaster I hate these stupid attached lids. Especially on milk bottles because they flop down while you’re pouring and the milk goes everywhere.
I’ve started just breaking them off.

I never face this issue. Are you doing it wrong? you have to fold them until they click and stay in place.

@Elektrotier @remaster But in Sweden the number of bottle caps on beaches increased dramatically after bottle caps started to be attached.

@ahltorp OMG didn't know that. The EU should takle the problem at the source: no single use plastic bottles and cups.

@magezwitscher @remaster On the long life cartons this works, but not on the fresh milk plastic bottles.
It could be a brand issue but in general I don’t think lids needed to be legislated.

The vast majority of handy-sized plastic drinks bottles here in UK do seem to have attached lids. I didn't understand it when it first came out, so perhaps some ppl still don't embrace the idea. Still, IMO it's greenwashing the fact of single use disposable plastics. I don't think my municipality are too clear about exactly what happens to our carefully pre-sorted recyclables, caps attached or not.@MattMoose @ahltorp @bill88t @Elektrotier @remaster The UK has ancient, crumbling drainage infrastructure already jammed with wet wipes. One would think you all overjoyed about the attached bottle caps making it all the way to the landfill.

The number of times I accidentally spilt water over myself while drinking increased a lot thanks to this bs...
And some of the water bottles at work have an especially shitty cap that you cannot properly close again w/o ripping the cap off first.
And the scratches to lips and nose...
Thanks to all the idiots that threw their waste into the environment.
Well... At least this didn't break our Reverse Vending Machine software. Was seeing me adapting our bottle detection to this abomination for weeks on end already when those came out...

If made properly (folding back to a stable position) and not dangling around stupidly, I really like attached bottle caps. No more problems when opening a water bottle in a car and the cap falls into the void...Don't know what exact problems other people have

@mawhrin @keesjanb @remaster This is not about my use of the cap, it's a design problem.
The can industry found a solution without major flaws, and the plastic bottle industry didn't. Sending a 100 page manual with each bottle detailing nifty tricks isn't design, and neither is sharing the tricks with us on Mastodon.

@remaster This is probably meant as a joke, but honestly what isn’t there to like?
It’s simple and effective and the burden of implementation was put on the drink manufacturers.
That doesn’t negate the success in European collaboration at the other end of the spectrum. Airbus outsells Boeing almost 2:1, Ariane launches the JWSS at such precision it *doubles* the telescope’s life span. Galileo is a top-notch (if not the best) GNSS.

@remaster What’s the problem with plastic bottle caps? Reasonable improvement. I don’t really get the logic behind alm the jokes. I mean, it’s understandable when some MAGA idiots do it, but this is the first time I saw it on Mastodon feed.
