It did shape bottle design even outside the EU and reduces plastic pollution and the swallowing of bottle caps by animals. So it kind of is peak European invention by regulating the industry.

@remaster @gruber Anecdotal, but I didn’t spot a single bottle cap lying in the sand at the beach this summer, used to be a common sight. One report states 47% fewer caps found on beaches in the Netherlands.
Seems worth it?

It does reduce the amount of plastic trash in the sea and the swallowing of bottle caps by animals. So, this slight inconvenience saves animal lives.
