@margaret I hope it works out for you. I know the fediverse is not the best when your job depends on having huge numbers of social media followers but I have found it great for conversations.
@samitchdoo yeah, to be blunt, that's what's kept me on instagram and bluesky. I'm not going to quit them entirely, though i might when they force me to show ID. It'll be an interesting contest between my stubbornness and my desire for my career to continue.

@margaret Yeah the need to be where the people are is pretty much the fediverse's Achilles' heel in regards to getting people on here. The fact that there were (and still are to an extent) very loud HOA-types during the Twitter exodus didn't help with getting people to sign up here either.
I do think the fediverse is the best *for me*. I think there is a way forward for making it a place for the folk who rely on social media for their jobs as well; I just don't know what that way is.

It *is* possible to get steady financial support here, as an artist, for any industry. While I can't *talk* to other people on mainstream networks, I try to follow others via their websites, indie blogs that blog about niche industry things, and or Bluesky RSS feeds. My website is my hub. My website is far more important than the Fediverse for my writing, but it is nice to see you over here! I know how it can be online! @margaret @samitchdoo
