Fun story: When I was traveling home I wore my "Watch Herzog" t-shirt for travel day. It's got a giant picture of Werner's face on it.

This fucked up every single facial recognition program both the Mexican and US passport control areas to the point that agents for both countries had to pull me aside and verify my identity the old fashioned way.

So t-shirts with big faces on them don't work well with AI Facial recognition systems. Figured that would be interesting information around here.

@rtw Our worst encounter with airport facial recognition was when Southwest Airlines first rolled it out.

They had a lot of brown-skinned customers back then. And the recognition software had been trained on (you got it!) *white* faces.

Five lines of people, waiting for the one human SW attendant to verify each ID...

SW finally gave up on the machines and put everyone through their "Pay us $20 for person-to-person help" line without charge.

Like to think it helped put SW where they are now!

@rtw Time to combine ThisPersonDoesNotExist and some T-Shirt printing site to generate an infinite number of new faces on T-Shirts.

@rtw Sure is! I will be buying a t-shirt with Samuel L on the front and Sigourney W on the back. Let the agents make sense of that one plus I really don't mind wearing those two.

@rtw I had the same experience with a selfie cam earlier this year, when I wore this years Desertfest shirt which also has a big face (half overgrown by mushrooms) on it, and the camera decided it's another person

@p @JustinDerrick @rtw If only airport security would quit pulling me out of line to ask questions that are clearly answered by my "Don't ask questions about the bag on my head" shirt.

Instead you need a t-shirt that says: "I have health problems" and point to it whenever someone asks you a question.

Temu is an excellent source of cheap t-shirts with giant faces on them. Typically under $6 (plus $3 S&H).

It helps if you're a fan of Bruce Willis, Blues Brothers, or the Three Stooges.

@rtw@mastodon.sdf.org the text on the shirt having something name-like on it may also have contributed

these sorts of vision models are notoriously susceptible to producing output that says, for example, that an image has a yellow fruit in it, if the image is of a piece of paper with the text "banana" written on it

@rtw if we can do it without puking, we should all wear shirts with trump's face on them. Or maybe a morph between trump and one of the Kardashians.
