@Ruth_Mottram I've been exploring Proton so for Big Switch day I'm moving off Google services to Proton.
@snarklestiltzkin @Ruth_Mottram I looked at Proton due to the free plan, but realised I was going to need a paid plan due to my email storage. I then found Mailbox.org and went with them as similar cost but also green energy hosting. They also had a function that migrated all my emails for me.

@CiaraNi - ’Denmark Switches.’ A national campaign to collectively move off Big Tech. March 20th is Big Switch Day. I’ve named my goal now. I’m already almost deMicrosofted, except for my photo archive. I moved to Libre & Tuta mail and have been purging photos as I await the release of Tuta drive. Now I’m committing myself to just get the photos off OneDrive and on to my computer, that I own, in my house, by March 20th. Then I’ll delete Microsoft. Then I’ll boast about it on the Fediverse.@Ruth_Mottram @CiaraNi Love it.
I've recently set up an auto-reply on my Gmail, letting people know that this year I'm de-Googling, and so that email account will no longer be in use (and to let me know if they want my new email to keep in touch).
In my own way, getting there!

@clickhere @Ruth_Mottram That's a brilliant idea. A way of making changes at a manageable pace while also sharing the concept of switching off Big Tech.

I've recently set up an auto-reply on my Gmail, letting people know that this year I'm de-Googling, and so that email account will no longer be in use (and to let me know if they want my new email to keep in touch).
In my own way, getting there!
@clickhere @Ruth_Mottram @CiaraNi Even if it isn't feasible to totally deGoogle, my Google account has always been linked to a 3rd party email address, not a Gmail account. It's just my teeny way of not putting all my eggs in 1 basket!

I've also started using The Good Cloud (based on Next Cloud) for cloud storage.
After initial trials, I'm paying for each - we'll have to see whether I can keep that going.
But gradually trying to divest personal accounts and platforms; stuck with Microsoft, Google, and Zoom at work, though.

@CiaraNi @Ruth_Mottram Thanks! Yeah, I'm hoping it conveys something to peeps who might then get curious; but also yeah, I'm so tied in to various accounts and services with the Gmail account, I thought a gradual approach is best, as well as not cutting off from pals!

@CiaraNi @Des_egan @Ruth_Mottram No probs at all - they have a free trial thingamy, the UI is kinda basic (but it's all I need), and they're one of the hosted options/partners recommended by Nextcloud (I'm not in a position to self-host, so this takes care of that, if you get me).
