Thanks for the photo. I've know Rick Minnich for some 30+ years, when he was still at film school. From working with him on film festivals and our exchanges throughout the years I have the impression that he would make a good travel companion for this crazy trip!
And he also is a documentary director and not just a camera operator. All the best for the next legs of the trip!
@OskarImKeller Ah, small world. He is a great guy to work with... and the next week we will have the first film out! @Pepijn

So Rick Minnich (the cameraman following me) and I were still smiling at Padborg! Thanks @Pepijn for the pic! #LongestTrainEU

So I wondered... as #LongestTrainEU is now amazingly ahead of schedule, could I get *further* than Genève tonight
How about a, say, 19:00 TGV Strasbourg - Lyon
Ah no
The last train between France's 8th and 2nd cities goes at... 16:15 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Going to Genève makes pretty much no sense, geographically, but the Swiss do actually like running trains. The French, not so much!
@jon I bet they'll say putting more trains isn't worth it until the LGV Rhin-Rhône is completed, and completing the LGV isn't worth it until there are enough passengers on the line.

Why start somewhere and choose the virtuous circle when you can just glide into the vicious circle instead?

-
@RensBloom Nope. Different Paris terminals. Not allowed. RER is not Single European Rail Area.
@jon @RensBloom The Austerlitz to Tolosa night service also picks up passengers tonight in Orleans at 23:33

@amymagdalena @RensBloom And do tell me how to get to Orleans from Mannheim by then

And I am on a Siemens built ICE4 (enough of the rattling and broken toilet Talgo shit, and the shaky Alstom shit) and it is perfect. Quiet, smooth, comfortable. This is how this trip *should* be! #LongestTrainEU

@jon @RensBloom Teleportation apparently

Meanwhile in Munich: car number lottery on the ICE by changing the numbers every minute.
Thank you for traveling with Deutsche Bahn. -

@jon I hate the thing since I repeatedly got ice cold air blown into my face, when commuting on them in winter.
(Every trainset when entering a tunnel or other changes of air pressure or sth like that).
Admittedly, didn't get the chance to try the Talgos yet.

Thanks @pink for joining me on board ICE 771 between Göttingen and Kassel! So many conversations with different people en route today, it's great!

@jon Wtf, so the international Frankfurt - Marseille TGV is the last direct Strasburg - Lyon ?!? 🤯

@jubeldoktor Ha. In a Talgo you'd be fearing the doors blow off!
-
Hamburg, only +7 amazingly. So the next leg of #LongestTrainEU will go to MANNHEIM on ICE 771
@jon only +7 on the connection to Hamburg? That's just cheating!

@jon @RensBloom Without the temporal restrictions, the route is amusing. Mannheim - Geneve - Liyon (which is now closer to Portugal than Orleans) - Vierzon - Les Aubrais Orleans
-
: am I a joke to you?
