Not surprisingly, in July 1933 Schumacher was arrested and sent to a concentration camp. He narrowly escaped execution and survived the illnesses and deprivations of the camp, to become a leading politician in postwar West Germany.

That line about mobilizing human stupidity, though…@SteveBellovin I was *just* reading John Stuart Mill when I found this, "...I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative. I believe that to be so obvious and undeniable a fact that I hardly think any hon. Gentleman will question it."
And this, too, seems particularly apt for our current situation.
