    Maybe this is it. Maybe this is the great filter. The wholesale fully automated computerized slaughter of meaning

    @eniko

    I for one, will not submit to the digital boot stomping down - as much as it is attempted to Trojan horse it through the doors as "just a tool"

    That said, it is hard seeing the people you looked up to fall into it. The people you love, relegate to it, not even spending the least amount of effort into you or the relation between you.

    I have no solution, I have no joke or pun.

    I am sorry. You are not alone in this, for all that may be worth.

            @eniko I think the great filter is something that will need a little more staying power in terms of "capable of continuing to exist as a thing"

            all this *gestures* being propped up on the financialized instrument equivalent of a pile of nitroglycerine does not make me think it's going to last as-is

              @eniko Those who are twats will bring their inevitable end, while those who aren't will continue to prosper - Sun Tzu, probably, or it might have been Kropotkin /hj

                @eniko I'll never understand it.

                I had a coworker send me an LLM-generated email yesterday. I complained about the unreadability and unnecessary padding about it to another coworker, who suggested I *run it through an LLM for a summary*.

                I remember being thrilled that I get to do this kind of work. Now it's like trying to work under a cold wet blanket.

                            @eniko the funny part is like, its definitely expensive to use in any real capacity. everyone who shows their whole ass has easily sent hundreds down the drain for that garbage.

                              @eniko with how the gen AI systems have been trained, I'd almost say it's more like "taking something home from the british museum and showing everyone the cool thing you made"

                                @eniko @Tijn I've seen a few counts. In most age groups, AI-lovers are in the minority. In most industries, they're in the minority. No one seems to want to count the general population, though, because that's apparently dangerous

                                      @eniko @c0dec0dec0de To be honest, it's not really the work life that hurts the most.

                                      I've had low-wage jobs before. I've also been long-term unemployed. It fucking sucks, but it's survivable - at least here where I am. I can make do on very little if need be - I know this for a fact, because I spent a large chunk of my youth under the relative poverty line.

                                      But the thing I always had that I could hold on to when life sucked was programming. I've been programming since before I knew it even could be a job.

                                      And it's also the one thing I've ever had in my life where I'm not just some disabled fuckup. The one thing that I could actually do that anyone actually valued.

                                      Seeing the value of that plummet to 0 in nearly no time at all has sent me reeling, and I don't know if I can get back up.
