I'm bringing back greeting people in the streets.

@TheBreadmonkey @spanghero It's as good a representation of it as you can do in text I think, although I believe it's the pitch of the sound changes from a higher to lower tone as the source of the sound approaches then passes the observer and recedes.
But I'm not a sound person... or scientist... either.@TheBreadmonkey @spanghero Of course, don't get your Doppler Effect confused with your Dogger Effect, which is an altogether different thing (which I also know nothing about because I just made it up for the amusement).

@TheBreadmonkey Good afternoon.

Is that the Doppler Effect? Full disclosure I'm not a sound scientist.
For your ears to detect this effect—called the Doppler effect—the sound source has to be moving toward or away from you at a minimum speed of about 15 to 20 mph (24 to 32 kph). As the source moves faster, the effect becomes more pronounced.

The fastest human ever recorded is Usain Bolt, who reached a peak speed of 27.8 mph (44.7 km/h)

@TheBreadmonkey I do this on my morning walk. It seems to irritate people, so I'm going to keep doing it.

I used to wake the kids up by playing this. They used to hate it but now think it's hilarious.

@TheBreadmonkey I love doing this, I've reprogrammed several people into responding now. At first they didn't say anything or just grunted but now I get smiles and actual words!

@TheBreadmonkey I do this. In Massachusetts, a place reputed to be unfriendly, it feels subversive.

I now appoint you as an honoury generic northerner:
@essjayjay @TheBreadmonkey I'm from a small town in the midlands and I have lived in London for 40 years.
My Dad once did some auditing work for an organisation called Corrymeela and had to come down to London for some book keeping work. He was also a Methodist preacher.
He complained to me that he had arrived early and decided to stop for a drink in a cafe on the Euston Road. Having collected his coffee he decided to sit at an already occupied table and greet the other person with the words "hello brother".
He said the person looked scared and moved to another empty table. I told him even if it had me sitting there I'd also moved to another empty table.
