#Mastodon > #WSocial.

@Wuzzy I will block any Mastodon server that introduces ads from my feed.
@LukefromDC @Wuzzy That's the main selling point, IMHO – federation and open source make the Fediverse enshittification-proof.
Whereas "L" Social is backed by private investors who *will* demand return on their investment soon. -
Mastodon: 100% free software.
W Social. Isn't.
Mastodon: Global, as all cool Internet things should be.

W Social: Eurocentrist. 🤮Mastodon: Does not want you to hand over your passport.
W Social: Does.
Mastodon: No ads for 10 years.
W Social: Already threatened to introduce ads by 2027.
Why should I register on W Social again? What’s the point?
@Wuzzy
Who even says you should? -

@Wuzzy There's nothing wrong with a particlar platform to be centered around a specific demographic.

@Wuzzy never even heard of w social, but it sounds like crap the way you compare it. Stupid name too.
-
@Wuzzy I don't even want to post my full name on social media!
So why would I want to give any social media platform my passport? 🤯
@ahimsa_pdx I'm happy to use my full name, but giving up my passport details is a step too far. @Wuzzy

@Wuzzy Until yesterday I did not even hear about this "another closed social network". Maybe we should stop talking about them. Even bad publicity is publicity.

@Wuzzy I wondered the same about Bluesky. When it was new, it didn't have network effects so nobody "had to" be there. Nobody had a reason to join. But many people did it and now there are complaints "but i cannot leave, I have connections there" when Bluesky also started Nazi bar pipeline, platforming hate speach and banning Black and queer voices. Like how the hell people still didn't learn only way to win is not to play... That time they COULD avoid this toxic cycle.

@Herman The funny thing is, I didn't even try to "convince" anyone to join #Mastodon, I was just making fun of the obvious marketing nonsense by #WSocial.
Not everyone has to be on social media and that’s OK. But if you DO want to be on social media, it would be great if it’s NOT some corporate proprietary crap. Trust in proprietary software is what has been destroying the WWW for a long time. Thankfully, free software exists (not just Mastodon). People just need to use it.

@Wuzzy I've not followed this W Social story closely, so don't know the "case for the defence". What's the best article for me to read that makes the case for it?

@_elena has some articles written about WSocial.
Maybe it could help for some understanding. -
