I guess when I was telling people that Big Tech (aka People Farmers) never delete your data but just set a deleted=true flag, I was being overly generous.

Their response:

Please be assured that we have removed the details from our mailing list and no further correspondence will be sent.

@aral personally, I think it's ALWAYS the case unless stated otherwise. Some companies are required to do hard delete. most dont.
